Reaction to Nomination of SIA for GAR Award

As reported earlier, the School of International Arbitration at Queen Mary University of London was one of 5 nominees for the award for GAR Award for Sustained Contribution to IA Best Practice for this year's GAR Awards.

Other contenders for this award were the IBA Committee on Arbitration, the ICC Institute of World Business Law, OGEMID and UNCITRAL Working Group II. The winner, which was announced during an award ceremony in Seoul on 3 March, was the IBA Committee on Arbitration.

The nomination of the SIA for this award amongst these prestigious organisations in itself, however, was welcomed at the School as a recognition for its pioneer work in the education and research in the field of international arbitration.

In a reaction, Dr. Stavros Brekoulakis stated:

"We are all delighted that the School was nominated for this award, especially since it is the only academic institution in the list of nominees. It is a well-deserved recognition of the continuous contribution of the School in teaching and research related to International Arbitration. At the same time, the nomination sets a new challenge for us to keep the School in the leading position in the coming years."
